Wolves vs Huddersfield Town preview

Wolves will be looking to consolidate their mid-table status on Sunday when they play host to David Wagner’s Huddersfield Town. The Midlands outfit have been enduring a slump in the Premier League recently with no wins in their last four games – three of those being losses.

Huddersfield by contrast will be looking to claw themselves out of the relegation zone with an away victory. The Terriers got their first league win of the season earlier in the month and will want to close out November on a high note before the hectic December schedule.

A 1-0 home win against Fulham in front of a sold out and rocking John Smith’s Stadium was followed up with a respectable 1-1 draw against West Ham United.

While Wagner’s men are rooted to the bottom of the table the Huddersfield manager says he is not worried with their current predicament. Speaking ahead of the match he said:

“To be totally honest, the bottom three at the minute is not the main focus. Psychologically, every win brings you forward. Big steps forward.”

Wolves are coming off the back of back-to-back games against two of the Premier League heavyweights in Arsenal and Tottenham in which they equipped themselves well in both games.

A late flurry was not enough to claw back a three-goal deficit against Spurs while they were four minutes away from a famous win at Arsenal before Henrikh Mkhitaryan snatched a point for the Gunners

The Wanderers enter a particularly tricky stretch in December with them squaring off against three of the current top four – Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham – so a chance to get three points at home and strengthen their hand will be key.

While Huddersfield remain the lowest goal scorers in the league Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo has warned his side not to take the West Yorkshire outfit lightly,

“I think they’ve improved with their last performances and results. We know how hard its going to be, they have their own idea and shape.”

Espirito Santo will have teenage defender Ruben Vinagre back at his disposal for the clash at Molineux. The 19-year-old looks set the earn his first league in almost a year after suffering a knee injury while on international duty with Spain.

The teenager will likely step in for the injured Jonny who will be missed due to a knee injury.

Huddersfield will be without Chris Lowe who has been a key man for them at the back. The German defender suffered a shoulder injury against West Ham.

There is cause for Huddersfield to be confident of a positive result. The Terriers have won ten of their previous 12 meetings.

A victory for the hosts would see them leapfrog Leicester City into tenth. A top half place entering a vital stretch of the season will the kind of start Espirito Santo would have dreamed of on Wolves’ return to England’s top tier.
