The 2018 FIFA World Cup will be the last time Mexican soccer fans will be able to see striker Oribe Peralta suit up for the El Tri. The 34-year old striker told Marca that he will retire from international competition once Mexico’s participation in the World Cup is complete.

“Yes, this will be my last World Cup. I’ve already decided. After the World Cup I will be retiring (from National Team).”  — Oribe Peralta

Peralta made his National Team debut in 2005 under manager Ricardo La Volpe in the build up preparations for the 2006 FIFA World Cup. He did not make the final World Cup roster but has represented Mexico regularly in international competitions.

The Torreon, Coahuila native has won Gold Medals with Mexico at the 2011 Pan American games and the 2012 Olympic Games. He was also part of the 2016 Olympic squad.

The current Club America striker has also represented Mexico during the 2014 FIFA World Cup, 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup, Copa America Centenario, 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup, and World Cup qualification in CONCACAF.

At the moment Peralta has scored 34 goals in 72 matches for all National Team squads. He could still add to this total with the two friendly matches plus the three – seven World Cup games.
