Bundesliga Matchday 8 Round-Up: 33 Goals, 9 Matches

In a goal fest of a weekend BVB lose at home, Jupp returns to Bayern, and some last minute wins. This and more in the Bundesliga round-up.

Last season was no fluke, RB Leipzig is here to play and one day win the Bundesliga. How do you do this? Knock off BVB or Bayern Munich at their own ground.

BVB had no answer for Leipzig. While there were some fan protests it didn’t effect the match day experience. BVB defensively could not handle an upper echelon team. The frailties seen in the Champions League were exploited, and after five goals and two red cards BVB fell for the first time this season 3-2 to Leipzig.

Bayern Munich is known for being a calculating club. But it was a knee jerk reaction in jettisoning Carlo Ancellotti. In comes the former boss Jupp Heynckes. They ripped apart SC Freiburg in a fashion that is very typical of Bayern in the last decade. The opposition looked like they were cringing knowing punches were to be thrown instead of standing them up. 5-0 and some are beginning to think that this is more than a just a band aid that will carry over season long

Eintracht Frankfurt had a 2-1 home win via Sebastian Haller the week before and Ante Rebic did his bit as well. Hannover has been the best of the promoted sides but this was not to be their day. In a counterattack from Frankfurt the long ball from the keeper was chested back by Haller to Rebic to take a long range effort and convert for a well deserved winner.

Elsewhere in the Bundesliga

Stuttgart broke Koln hearts more than they were already fractured. Koln looked to have earned a late penalty with the match tied up. Video Assistant Replay overturned the call and down at the other end seconds later a deflected shot was put away to give the Swabians the full points. FC Koln now sits bottom after eight played with one point earned.

Hertha Berlin players joined in the NFL kneeing before match in a show of solidarity. If only their defense held as strong, as Schalke came in and walked out of the capital city with a 2-0 win.

Hoffenheim is struggling with two matches in a week. Against FC Augsburg they had a late 2-1 lead dashed by a equalizer that drops the club to fourth in the table after this 2-2 draw.

HSV season goes from disappointment to disappointment. A late consolation goal made the 3-2 scoreline look better than it was as Mainz cruised to victory.

For years Leverkusen and Wolfsburg matches would be called Der Plastiker. This match ended 2-2 with the bright spot for CONCACAF fans the young Leon Bailey who looks to be the next great star from the region.

Looks like Alexander Nori’s time is nearly up at Werder Bremen. Borussia Monchengladbach looked to never get out of second gear as they easily dispatched Bremen 2-0.
