A UEFA Champions League tie held in England was fixed according to shock revelations of the biggest ever investigation into match fixing.
680 matches were fixed of which 380 took place in Europe. Most shockingly one was held in England in the Champions League and took place within the last three years.
European police would not reveal the identity of the match they believe was corrupt in England due to the ongoing investigation.
425 players, referees, criminals and coaches are involved according to the European Police investigating.
An organised crime syndicate based in Asia is responsible, paying over 2m Euros in bribes.
“It is a sad day for European football,” said Europol spokesman Rob Wainwright at a press conference in the Hague.
Wainwright will be writing to UEFA President Michel Platini to inform him of the findings. 50 people have already been arrested including 14 in Germany alone.
He also revealed that other affected matches included World Cup and European Championship qualifiers and “several top football matches in European leagues”.
