He Never Left the Bench and Got a 4 Match Ban

Coentrao accrued a four game ban without leaving the bench

Real Madrid have not made the best start to the La Liga season.

With just one point out of six, they now find themselves languishing in 14th place equal with Granada, and behind not one but THREE Madrileño city rivals; Athletico Madrid, Rayo Vallecano and Getafe.

However the embarrassment of being, albeit temporarily, Madrid’s fourth team pales into insignificance with the embarrassment of their Portuguese left-back Fabio Coentrao.

Coentrao was not selected for their 2-1 derby loss at Getafe and was not asked by Jose Mourinho to rescue the side off the bench before or after they went 2-1 down in the 75th minute. Nor will he be able to rescue them from their current league plight after incurring a four match ban during the game.

Sat on the bench for the entire match, he decided to give referee Miguel Pérez Lasa the benefit of his wisdom.

That wisdom consisted of telling Señor Lasa that he was a ‘hijo de puta’.

For his opinion, he has been given a four match ban and will miss another derby, at Rayo Vallecano, as well as games with Sevilla, Deportivo La Coruna and the big league match with Barcelona.

It looks like Señora Lasa will have the last laugh.
