A massive day for international football has begun with good news for one MLS star on the other side of the world.
Not many readers will have heard of, never mind visited, Penrose, a suburb of Auckland. One MLS-er who now has is Colorado Rapids striker Omar Cummings.
He will have pleasant memories of Penrose’s Mount Smart Stadium to shoehorn between copious amounts of sleep as he tackles the various flights making the 7339 miles back from Auckland airport to Colorado.
Cummings started in Jamaica’s 3-2 win over New Zealand playing the opening 64 minutes before being replaced by Navion Boyd.
Perhaps curtailing Cumming’s satisfaction will be Boyd’s goal for Jamaica 13 minutes after entering the field of play.
That put the Reggae Boyz 1-3 up after goals from Xavian Virgo and Tremaine Stewart were answered by a Kiwi counter from Bristol City’s Chris Wood.
Chris Killen pulled a late consolation back for the All Whites in the stadium graced by none other than Bon Jovi in 2010.
That should cause Cummings a chuckle when he’s just ‘Half Way There’ on the long journey home.
Several other MLS players are potentially featuring in internationals today including three from Portland Timbers and of course LA’s Robbie Keane.
