Attention soccer fans! Interested in winning a cool $1,000,000? The Whitecaps World Soccer Challenge – presented by Vancouver Whitecaps FC and in partnership with The Province newspaper – is giving fans an opportunity to do just that.

Next month sees soccer’s elite convene in South Africa for the game’s showpiece event. Fans will have the chance to predict how the tournament unfolds by signing up to the Whitecaps World Soccer Challenge at whitecapssoccerchallenge.com or facebook.com/VancouverMLS2011 for free.

The grand prize of $1,000,000 is available to one lucky fan who can successfully predict the winners and runners-up of all eight first-round groups, as well as winners of the round of 16, quarterfinals, semifinals, and the eventual winner.

If no one wins the top prize, a consolation prize for the entrant that claims the most points in the Whitecaps World Soccer Challenge will be a trip for two to Houston, Texas, for the 2010 Major League Soccer (MLS) All-Star Game between the MLS All-Stars and English Premier League giants Manchester United FC at Reliant Stadium on July 28. Entrants will also be able to set up groups among their friends and work colleagues, with groups of 10 or more individuals earning a pair of tickets to a Whitecaps FC regular season match at Swangard Stadium this season.

The Province’s website – theprovince.com – will feature team previews leading up to the showcase event, as well as full match coverage throughout the tournament. All entrants will be able to see various celebrity picks and keep track of their progress in the Whitecaps World Soccer Challenge through the Vancouver’s MLS Facebook page – facebook.com/VancouverMLS2011.

The Whitecaps World Soccer Challenge is open to soccer fans across Canada (except Quebec), with daily prizes to be awarded before the start of the tournament in South Africa on Friday, June 11.
