Red Bull Racing has been handed a $7m fine as well as a 10% aero research reduction for 2023.
The team were found in breach of the cost cap for the 2021 season, overspending by £1,864,000 on their way to winning a driver’s championship with Max Verstappen.
Verstappen narrowly bested Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton in last season’s title decider in Abu Dhabi, with his title victory now questioned by some with the announcement of Red Bull’s breach.
Following the breach, the team were offered an Accepted Breach Agreement by the FIA, with Red Bull accepting this agreement after the United States Grand Prix, where the team won its first constructors championship since 2013.
The breach has resulted in a £6.07m fine along with a 10% reduction in aerodynamic research next season. This fine must be paid within the next 30 days.
The breach has caused controversy amongst teams, with the likes of McLaren and Mercedes demanding sporting penalties.
