Germany vs Denmark Group B Women’s Euro 2022 Opener- Preview

Germany women will lock horns with Denmark women in their Women’s Euro 2022 opener at the Brentford Community Stadium on Friday with a 8 pm kick off.

Denmark ended Germany’s pursuit of a seventh successive Women’s Euro title with a 2-1 win back in 2017 at the quarter-final stage.

Germany strolled through the qualifying rounds, but their recent form has been mixed with three defeats and two victories in their last five matches.

Germany are bidding to win their ninth consecutive European Championship trophy and are one of the favourites to lift the trophy on July 31^st. However, they will have to negotiate a really tough group that contains Spain, Denmark and Finland.

In their most recent game, a Klara Buhl hat trick helped the Germans to a comfortable 7-0 win over Switzerland.

Denmark are looking to win their first major trophy after coming so very close to lifting the trophy in 2017, losing 4-2 in the final to the Netherlands.

The Danes beat Austria and Brazil in the run up to the tournament before losing to Norway 2-1 in their final friendly.

Martina Voss-Tecklenburg, Germany coach: “The team are ready. Fortunately, everyone is fit and healthy and we have no injuries to report. The details will decide this game, because we have two good teams facing off. It might come down to who is luckier on the day, or who manages to take advantage of a mistake, as well as the opportunities to counter.”

Lars Søndergaard, Denmark coach: “What we have been anticipating for a very long time is approaching. We should be looking forward to this tournament, which I’m sure will be fantastic. We’re in a good place. How good it is will show when it all begins. But the feeling is good.”

Katrine Veje, Denmark defender: “We know what the Germans can do. I played against Bayern in the Champions League with Malmö, and they are just insanely good technically and have pace beyond compare. So, we need to be brave and avoid being pressed.”
