Ada Hegerberg will play at the Euros

For the first time in five years Norwegian striker Ada Hegerberg will represent her country at a major tournament as she is named in Norway’s Euro 2022 squad.

The 26-year-old striker retired from her national side back in 2017 as a protest against Norway’s lack of respect for it’s female players .

But for the Euros in England this summer she is part of the 23 woman squad which also includes seven WSL players.

Hegerberg returned to represent her country back in April this year for their World Cup qualifying campaign. During her long awaited return against Kosovo, she instantly had an impact by scoring a hat-trick.

The striker also netted for club side Lyon in their Champions League triumph over Barcelona last month, meaning she is in red hot form going into the summer.

Having Hegerberg back boosts Norway’s overall chances of winning the Euro’s this year as the striker has had lots of team successes in her career. She has won:

• 6x Women’s Champions League titles
• 7x Division 1 Feminine titles
• 5x French Cups
• Norwegian Women’s Cup

She has also had lots of individual success too, the 26-year-old has won:

• UEFA’s Best Women’s Player (IN EUROPE) in 2016
• The Women’s Ballon d’Or in 2018
• The BBC Women’s Player of the Year in 2017 and 2019

In terms of goals for her country Hegerberg has scored 30. If she weren’t to have taken a five year break this number would be substantially higher. And this season for Lyon, in only 16 appearances she has scored 10 goals and bagged five assists. So, it’s certain she will be pivotal to her nation’s success this summer.

Norway are in Group A where they will face hosts of the tournament England as well as Northern Ireland and Austria. Their first game is on July 7 against Northern Ireland.
