Formula 1 set to deliver the show in Miami

0

Formula 1 will make its first appearance in the USA this year with the inaugural Miami Grand Prix.

After years in the making, the sport’s venture to the Hard Rock stadium will finally be made this weekend, with a 5.412km circuit hosting the race around the home of the Miami Dolphins.

Max Verstappen dominated in Italy to reignite his championship fight, while championship leader Charles Leclerc was sent spinning off of the podium in the closing stages, allowing Lando Norris to claim his first podium of 2022.

After Imola, each team will have their goals laid out, with Ferrari and Red Bull the obvious favorites to battle for victory in round five of the world championship.

Ferrari under pressure despite good start to the season

After Bahrain, few would rule out the idea of the Scuderia dominating the 2022 campaign to take their first championship victory since 2008.

However, their home race in Italy saw the prancing horse fall from grace, only taking home a sixth place in the Grand Prix after both Carlos Sainz and Leclerc suffered incidents.

Sainz exited the race after a turn one tangle with McLaren’s Daniel Ricciardo, while his teammate made an unnecessary mistake while chasing after Sergio Perez.

After the last race weekend, although they are still leading both championships, Ferrari will be hoping to perform at the level seen in the opening race at Bahrain.

Haas hoping to return home with fireworks

The only American team will head back home to America in a much better position than the last time the red, while and blue flag was flown above a race track at Austin last year.

At the 2021 United States Grand Prix, Haas were only able to claim 16th and 17th, with both cars two laps down, at the tail end of the worst season of their short history.

This year, with Kevin Magnussen at the wheel, the team have already claimed 15 points this year and sit eighth in the championship, one point behind Alpine in seventh.

Meanwhile, Mick Schumacher is yet to put a point on the board, only matched by Nicholas Latifi and Nico Hulkenberg.

Perhaps the support of the American crowd will spur him on to a top-ten finish.

Mercedes focused on helping Hamilton in Miami

George Russell impressed all of Mercedes’ critics after he was able to take home fourth for the German manufacturer despite a difficult qualifying session for both cars.

Despite this, much of the team’s focus following the race was negative, with Sir Lewis Hamilton failing to score points at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.

Team principal of Mercedes, Toto Wolff, apologized to his driver after the race, saying:

“Sorry for what you have needed to drive today, I know this is undrivable, not what we deserve to score as a result.

“This was a terrible race… we will come out of this.”

With Hamilton’s love of the United States, as well as the two week break from racing between Imola and Miami, a fresh mindset may be able to give him an extra step to improve his results.
