Poland’s Iga Swiatek continues her incredible form of 2022 with victory in semi-finals of Miami Open

Poland’s Iga Swiatek continued her superb run of form with a 15^th consecutive win after beating Petra Kvitova in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 to reach the semi-finals of the Miami Open.

The 20-year-old did not face a single breakpoint in a comfortable victory to keep her remarkable run of form going.

The Pole arrived in Miami after completing back-to-back titles at Doha and Indian Wells. The reward for her outstanding efforts will come next Monday when she becomes World Number One.

Swiatek will become number one as a result of the recent retirement of Australian Ashleigh Barty, who currently leads the world rankings.

In the semi-finals, she will face 16^th seed American Jessica Pegula who advanced through to the final when her opponent from Spain Paula Badosa was forced to retire from the tournament with a viral illness.

The Polish girl joins Caroline Wozniacki and Jelena Ostapenko as the only players to have made four or more WTA 1000 semi-finals before their 21^st birthdays.

Remarkably, the 20-year-old is now in her fifth semi-final of the season and is certainly the player to beat now.

Since her debut on the ITF Women’s circuit in 2016, she has made it to the fourth round of both Wimbledon and the US Open along with the semi-final of the Australian Open earlier this year and her maiden slam title in 2020 with victory in the French Open in Paris.
