Warrington Wolves face Leigh Centurions in their only pre-season game for Chris Hill’s testimonial.

The former Wolves captain has been at the club since his move from Leigh back in 2012 where he spent six years at his first club.

After his move from the Championship to Super League, his coach at the time Ian Millward predicted future national caps for Hill.

“I am delighted for Chris. As the fans will testify, he has developed all season and is ready for Super League. It would not surprise me if in due course he won national recognition.”

In his first season in Rugby League’s top flight, the Prop had a successful first year with a Challenge Cup victory over Leeds Rhinos at Wembley Stadium. He was named as Player of the Season, Player’s Player of the Season and he won the Vice President’s Award, taking each of the major accolades at the Warrington end of season award night.

2016 was a successful year for Warrington as the Wolves reached both finals, and claimed their first piece of silverware since 2012, the League Leaders Shield for just the second time in the club’s history. Hill was named in the Dream Team of the season and was the top metre maker in the league.

The England International has been an ever presence on the field, captaining his side to a Super League Grand Final and two Challenge Cup finals, the most recent in 2019 with a victory over St Helens.

Ahead of the 33-year old’s testimonial year Warrington’s young exciting talent Matty Ashton spoke about how he has found playing alongside Chris Hill.

“Chris Hill is a legend at Warrington, he works really hard in training and is always up there as one of the best props in the competition”.

Since joining the club in 2020, Matty admitted the club captain is someone he looked up to with what he has done in the game.

“He has been at Warrington at the top level for years, he leads from the front with his carries and work rate. He is a really good voice in the changing rooms and on the field”.

The testimonial match will be Steve Price’s side only pre-season game and the young full back is looking forward to getting back out on the field and is hoping to put on a good performance.

“I am really looking forward to it. It will be good to get a game under our belt. All the lads are really looking forward to it and hopefully we can put in a good performance going into the first game of the season”.
