Dowell and Pukki power Norwich ten points clear at the top of The Championship

Teemu Pukki continued his exemplary form in The Championship this season on Wednesday night as he netted his 22nd goal of the campaign early on in a comfortable 2-0 win for against Nottingham Forest.

The Canaries cruised to victory at The City Ground with two goals in quick succession sealing the three points. Both of the visitors’ goals came in the first 15 minutes of the game thanks to Teemu Pukki as well as former Forest forward Kieran Dowell in a matchup which Nottingham Forest struggled to keep up with.

Pukki’s goal was taken on the half turn as the Finnish striker spun his man and smashed a low driven shot into the bottom left corner for his 22nd goal of the season. In The Canaries’ last nine league games (of which they have won all nine), the talisman has scored a sensational 11 goals as he chases down Ivan Toney of Brentford for the Championship golden boot.

The other goalscorer, Kieran Dowell, made a telling impression on the game shortly after the Pukki opener, with the forward scoring quickly on his first start in 2021. The goal itself was taken in emphatic fashion for a player who has been riddled with injuries throughout the season.

The former Forest Loanee played a swift one two with Lukas Rupp on the edge of the area and as the ball bobbled up to Dowell decided to strike a half volley from range which rifled into the bottom corner, leaving replacement Forest keeper Jordan Smith no chance of preventing a 2-0 Norwich lead.

Forest never looked in the match after the two early Norwich goals sealed the home side’s fate after only 15 minutes. Forest will hope that their opponents at the weekend aren’t quite as dominant as they take on Brentford in what could be a very tough game for Chris Houghton’s side. Norwich on the other hand will look to extend their winning streak to double figures on Saturday as they welcome a struggling Blackburn Rgovers side to Carrow Road.
