Revolution Shut Out in 2-0 Home Loss to Houston Dynamo

FOXBOROUGH, MA – New England Revolution (9-4-5, 30 pts.) were defeated 2-0 versus Houston Dynamo FC (10-2-6, 32 pts.) on Saturday evening.

The match kicked off at 4:30 p.m. ET at Gillette Stadium to a crowd of 22,038.

The match kicked off with Houston Dynamo controlling possession from the center circle and working the ball through midfield.

Peyton Miller recorded the first effort of the match in the second minute. The Revolution winger drove toward the penalty area before unleashing a low, right-footed shot that forced goalkeeper Jonathan Bond to make a save and push the ball out for a corner kick.

Houston created its first opportunity in the fifth minute when Felipe Andrade found space on the right side of the box, but his effort sailed high over the crossbar.

New England threatened again in the ninth minute when a left-footed effort from inside the attacking third was blocked and eventually cleared by the Houston defense.

Ezequiel Ponce had a promising opportunity for the Dynamo in the 16th minute, receiving the ball inside the penalty area before seeing his left-footed effort blocked by Matt Polster and deflected out for a corner kick.

Miller continued to cause problems for Houston and generated another opportunity in the 28th minute. A combination play from the Revolution opened space for Miller, whose left-footed shot was saved by Bond.

Matt Turner was called into action in the 36th minute, producing a massive save to deny Mateusz Bogusz from distance. Bogusz’s effort was curling toward the bottom-right corner, but Turner reacted well to parry the shot away for a corner kick.

Less than a minute later, Houston threatened again as Guilherme fired an effort high over the crossbar.

New England created a flurry of chances in the 44th minute. Efforts from Brooklyn Raines, Carles Gil and Alhassan Yusuf were all denied as the Revolution continued to apply pressure, with a second attempt from Gil eventually deflected out for a corner kick.

Entering the 45th minute, Houston broke the deadlock.

Following a deflected shot off Ethan Kohler, the ball fell to Guilherme at the back post, where he calmly slotted a low effort into the bottom-right corner to give Houston a 1-0 lead.

After the initial 45+4 minutes, the match entered halftime with Houston Dynamo FC ahead 1-0.

The second half kicked off with New England controlling possession from the center circle and working the ball through the back to begin the half.

Guilherme created the first opportunity of the second half in the 48th minute, but his right-footed free kick was comfortably saved by Revolution goalkeeper Matt Turner.

Two minutes later, Mateusz Bogusz tested Turner with an effort toward goal, forcing the New England goalkeeper to palm the shot away.

In the 53rd minute, Houston Dynamo FC defender Lawrence Ennali was shown a yellow card after bringing down Peyton Miller to halt a Revolution counterattack.

Following the foul, Revolution head coach Marko Mitrović made his first two substitutions of the match, introducing Jack Harrison and Cody Baker in place of Matt Polster and Marcos Zambrano.

Héctor Herrera created Houston’s next opportunity in the 59th minute, connecting with a first-time, right-footed effort that was comfortably collected by Revolution goalkeeper Matt Turner.

Turner was called into action again just two minutes later, coming up with another important save to deny a close-range effort following a Houston corner kick.

Entering the 63rd minute, Houston doubled its advantage in the 63rd minute.

Following a cross into the penalty area from Jack McGlynn, Lawrence Ennali rose to meet the service and headed the ball into the back of the net to give the Dynamo a 2-0 lead.

Houston tested Matt Turner once again in the 66th minute when Guilherme fired an effort toward goal, forcing the Revolution goalkeeper into a diving save to prevent the Dynamo from adding a third.

Jack Harrison registered his first effort of the match in the 70th minute, but his left-footed shot from outside the penalty area was blocked and eventually cleared by the Houston defense.

Two minutes later, Houston Dynamo head coach Ben Olsen made his first substitution of the match, introducing Agustín Bouzat in place of Jack McGlynn.

In the 76th minute, Revolution head coach Marko Mitrović made his two substitutions by replacing Alhassan Yusuf & Peyton Miller with Griffin Yow & Diego Fagundez.

Just two minutes later, Houston Dynamo head coach Ben Olsen made two changes by replacing Ezquiel Ponce & Mateusz Bogusz with Duncan McGuire & Ibrahim Aliyu.

In the 86th minute, Revolution head coach Marko Mitrović made his fifth change of the match, introducing Wilson Harris in place of Will Sands.

Just two minutes later, Houston Dynamo head coach Ben Olsen made two changes by replacing Guilherme & Hector Herrera with Ondrej Lingr McGuire & Diadie Samassekou.

In the 90+3 minute, Houston Dynamo head coach Ben Olsen was issued a yellow card for berating the official.

Jack Harrison had a massive chance in the 90+5 minute when he took on two defenders and unleashed a shot that was deflected just over the bar for a corner kick.

After the 90+7 minutes, the match concluded with Houston Dynamo FC holding on for the 2-0 win.
