Fofana, Gill, & Mitrović named to MLS Team of the Matchday 12

FOXBOROUGH, MA– New England Revolution defender Mamadou Fofana, midfielder Carles Gil, and head coach Marko Mitrovic have made the MLS Team of the Matchday 12 following Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Philadelphia Union.

This is Gil & Fofana’ third appearance in TOTW this season.

This is Mitrović’s first appearance in TOTW.

MLS Team of the Matchday 12

Defender Mamadou Fofana obtained a starting position in the MLS Team of the Matchday 12 for his standout performance on Saturday night. Fofana, who played all 90 minutes finished the match with an 8.2 rating according to Fotmob. Offensively, Mamadou had had 107 touches and 5 passes into the final third. The defender went 97/90 (97%) on accurate passes throughout the match with 2/3 accuracy on long balls (67%). Fofana defensively had 12 defensive contributions with 1 tackle, 1 block, 10 clearances, 6 headed clearances, 1 goal line clearance, 0 interceptions and 9 recoveries during the match. He went 2/3 (67%) on ground duels and went 1/3 (33%) on aerial duels won.

Midfielder Carles Gil obtained a bench position in the MLS Team of the Matchday 12 for his great performance on Saturday evening. Gil, who played all 90 minutes finished the match with an 8.8 Man of the Match rating according to Fotmob. Offensively, Gil had 1 goal on one shot attempt (100% accuracy) & 1 assist. He had 94 touches and 16 passes into the final third. The midfielder went 56/67 (84%) on accurate passes throughout the match with 1/4 (25%) on successful dribbles, 1/5 (20%) on accurate crosses, & 4/6 accuracy on long balls (67%). He took 5 corners during the match. Gil defensively had 1 defensive contribution with 1 tackle during the match with 4 recoveries. He went 8/12 (67%) on ground duels and had zero aerial duels won. He was fouled 6 times during the match.

Head Coach Marko Mitrović was named MLS Head Coach of the Week in MLS Team of the Matchday 12 for leading New England to their fourth come-from-behind victory this season. Additionally, the first-year head coach has the Revolution 6-0-0 at home, which is a club record.

Marko Mitrović and the New England Revolution (7-1-3, 22 pts.) remain home to face Eastern Conference side Nashville SC (7-3-1, 24pts.). The match is set to kickoff at Gillette Stadium on Wednesday, May 13th at 7:30 p.m. ET on MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app.
