Charlotte FC dropped points on the road against Houston Dynamo FC with a 1-0 loss.
Charlotte was without their usual captain, Ashley Westwood, due to yellow card accumulation. Replacing Westwood was Brandt Bronico donning the captain’s armband, alongside Ben Bender making his second start of the season in the midfield.
The match was an all-around poor performance for Charlotte, having possession for just one third of the match and being outshot 17 to 11 by Houston. Charlotte did manage to have five shots on goal compared to Houston’s five but could not find the net with any of them.
Houston’s goal was scored early on when Amine Bassi received a cross into the box and found Ibrahim Aliyu on a pass who scored the goal in the fifth minute.
After the loss Charlotte fell to sixth in the MLS Eastern Conference with 32 points through 21 matches.
Charlotte has the opportunity to bounce back quickly with a midweek matchup coming up at home against Inter Miami CF, who will be without Lionel Messi. The match is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. EST on Wednesday, July 3 and streaming on Apple TV MLS Season Pass.
