Kamara saves point for LAFC against Austin

It was bad news good news for LAFC at the end of its match with Austin FC.

The bad news was that it saw its nine-match league winning streak come to an end on Wednesday night. The good news, the undefeated portion of its streak is still alive. Kei Kamara saw to that in the 89th minute, as his header right before stoppage time kept LAFC’s point streak going, as they settled for a 1-1 draw at Q2 stadium.

The undefeated streak, which now stretches all the way back to April, a span of 13 league matches, enables LAFC (10-4-4, 34 points) to keep pace in the Western Conference race, as they are tied with the Galaxy on points for second in the Western Conference, and both teams are three points back of West-leading Real Salt Lake.

The moment came for Kamara and LAFC in the 89th minute. Trailing 1-0, LAFC went short on a corner kick, Mateusz Bogusz sent a ball all the way into the six-yard box and the 6 ft 3 Kamara outjumped Brendan Hines-Ike to head a ball past keeper Brad Stuver far post to level the match.

Austin FC took the lead in the 19th minute. Sebastian Driussi stole the ball from Eduard Atuesta near the halfway circle and immediately passed to Jader Obrian, who then dribbled towards goal. Obrian took the ball to the outskirts of the penalty area, then fired a shot at the line of the box, the ball deflected off an LAFC defender, which enabled the ball to sail past keeper Hugo Lloris into the far post net to stake LAFC to the lead. Austin  had a chance to add to its lead, in the 28th minute, as Ethan Finlay sent a ball into the penalty area, Guilherme Biro swooped in and sent a dangerous header towards goal, but it just sailed over goal.
