Wakefield Trinity face Leigh Leopards at the Be Well Support Stadium, with Mark Applegarth’s men still seeking their first win this season.

Wakefield have struggled this year. Injuries throughout the squad have left them thread bare, and performances on the pitch have left them staring relegation in the face with only eight games played.

Wakefield’s main problem is their attack.

Since the start of the season, they have only scored eight tries this season, four of which came in round one. Furthermore they have been scoreless in four games.

Wakefield have shown they can pose questions to their opposition, but haven’t been able to turn field position into points. This needs to be sorted quickly if they are to finally get their first win of the season on Sunday.

Leigh come to Belle Vue looking to return to winning ways.

Two straight defeats to Wigan and Salford have put a damper on their return to Super League, but a win against Wakefield would put them back on track.

Leigh went toe-for-toe with the Red Devils last week, but ultimately fell short.

The Leopards were picked apart in defence by Salford’s fast paced attack, so will be looking to improve this against Wakefield.

Adrian Lam’s side did show they have plenty of ability in attack, especially out wide. They have plenty of firepower in this division. Wingers Josh Charnley and Tom Briscoe were both on the scoresheet last week, and have a collective 16 tries between them this season, double Wakefield’s total try count this season.

The resident party animals of Super League will be looking to play with this same attacking flair on Sunday, and if they do it could be a problem for Wakefield.

In team news, Mark Applegarth has named his squad to take on the Leopards. Star man Mason Lino is named in the squad as he looks to carry on his personal form, and looks set to feature alongside Morgan Smith in the halves. Back-rower Kelepi Tanginoa returns to the squad after overcoming a hamstring injury. Loanee’s Sam Hewitt and Innes Senior are also named in the squad.

Adrian Lam has also named his 21-man-squad for the game. The Leopards look set to name an exciting backline, featuring Zak Hardaker, Tom Briscoe and Ricky Leutele. Josh Charnley makes the squad. The winger will be looking to prove a point after his surprise omission from the England squad. In-form hooker Edwin Ipape is also included in the squad.
