Amy Turner: ” It’s a massive confidence builder”

Harlequins Women Head Coach Amy Turner believes their second-half comeback against Sale Sharks has set them up well for a big week.

Harlequins Women came from 14-10 down to win 31-21 away at Sale Sharks but Turner wasn’t pleased with their first-half showing.

She said: “We had lots of attacking opportunities.

“I think in the first-half, we needed to respect the possession a little bit better. We needed to retain the ball for multi-phase, we lost it a lot in early phases but I think we did that better in the second-half.”

She didn’t take anything away from the opposition who lost earlier in the season to Quins by 40 points to three.

Turner said: “Credit to Sale they came out and started really well, physical and were up for the game.

“We need to be able to do the same, start well, respect what we are trying to do, respect our possession and play on top.”

The London side were trailing 14-10 at the break but came out and won with a bonus point victory, which pleased the Head Coach ahead of a big week, which ends with Big Game 14 at Twickenham against Exeter Chiefs.

“It’s a massive confidence builder for our group,” she said.

“We needed to come out and score first and get that momentum and we did that and I’m proud of the players. It’s good for the confidence of the squad and it sets us up well for a good week with a six day turnaround to Exeter.

“We needed to get as much out of that performance as we could and I think we started well we just need to get that momentum into the week so that we face Exeter how we want to.”

On the ambitions for the rest of the season, Turner was clear on her objective for her team.

“We want to make the top four and then from that we will see how far we can go,” she said.
