Jamie McGonigle opened the scoring for the Candystripes. Ryan Graydon got put through from McGonigle down the wing who took the ball in his stride and whipped the ball back across the box for McGonigle to smash home in the 19th minute.
Derry never looked back from there. They kept the pressure on the Shelbourne defence and the second came ten minutes before half time. Cameron McJannet started and finished the move. The defender burst forward deep into the Shelbourne half before sliding a perfect ball into the path of Micheal Duffy. He hit the ball low and hard across the box, which was only half cleared before McJannet reacted quickest to slam the ball home to make it 2-0 to the Derry boys.
Shells tried to change things up a bit in the second half, but there was nothing they could do to stop the onslaught of Derry. McJannett added his second goal of the game in the 62nd minute. The ball was swung in from a corner and a lucky finish off the knee from McJannett into the roof of the Shells net off the crossbar made it 3-0.
Derry got a late penalty when McEneff was brought down in the box in injury time. The young midfielder took the penalty himself to make it 4-0 and complete the comfortable victory for Derry.
