Lionesses Beth Mead named England Women’s Player of the Year for 2022

Arsenal’s Beth Mead has been named as England Women’s Player of the Year for 2022.

The forward was selected by fans as the standout player in what has been an historic 12 months for her.

Mead was voted ahead of fellow Lionesses Leah Williamson and Keira Walsh who finished second and third respectively.

Arsenal’s Mead who claimed the Golden Boot and winners medal at Euro 2022, was awarded European Player of the Tournament by UEFA, along with a nomination for a Ballon d’Or Feminin.

The 27-year-old is the only English player to win the Golden Boot award and player of the tournament at a senior Euros. She also holds the record for most goals scored for England in a single season 14, surpassing another England legend Jimmy Greaves.

Earlier this year Beth Mead’s on fire was rapidly becoming the Euro 2022 anthem song sung around stadiums in England.

Mead has always been considered a very special talent at club level, but this summer she proved that it was a big mistake to leave her out of previous England squads.

Mead has a talent that has enabled her to play on either wing and is blessed with pace and skill along with an eye for goal.

Her knock backs, and she has had a lot of them in the past, have not defined her, they have just driven her on.

Back in 2020 she had to suffer the disappointment of being left out of the Tokyo Olympic squad.

Under the management at club level of Jonas Eidevall at Arsenal and at international level with Sarina Weigman, she has developed at an immense rate under both managers.

Her biggest asset though has to be her constant desire and hunger to prove all the doubters wrong.

Her best answer to any doubters will always be the same. “I will let my football do the talking”, which she will continue to do so.
