Zhou to remain with Alfa Romeo for 2023 Formula 1 campaign

Zhou Guanyu will stay at Alfa Romeo for 2023 following a contract extension with the team.

The Chinese driver made his F1 debut following a successful Formula 2 campaign last year, partnering Valtteri Bottas at Alfa Romeo from Bahrain onwards.

His rookie campaign has since been successful, taking a highest finish of eighth at the Canadian Grand Prix, with another two points finishes across the year.

With this, the Sauber-run Alfa Romeo squad has opted to renew Zhou’s contract, a deal that will see him remain with the team for next season.

Speaking about the deal, Zhou said:

“Making it to Formula 1 was a dream come true and the feeling of competing for the first time in a race will live with me forever.

“The team has been incredibly supportive, welcoming me from day one and helping me adapt to the most complex series in motorsport.

“There is more that I want to achieve in this sport and with the team, and the hard work we have put together since the start of the year is just the first step towards where we want to be next season.”

Another piece of the 2022 driver market has been slotted into place, with Haas, Williams and Alpine all yet to confirm their line-up for the upcoming season.

Zhou now looks ahead to this weekend’s Singapore Grand Prix, where Alfa Romeo will hope to take another step in securing sixth in the constructor’s standings.
