Albon to remain with Williams Racing on multi-year deal

Alex Albon will stay with Williams Racing for 2023 and beyond, with the team confirming the news on social media.

Albon joined Williams on loan from Red Bull Racing following the Thai driver’s departure from the Milton Keynes-based outfit at the end of 2020.

Following a year on the side lines, acting as Red Bull’s test and reserve driver, Albon’s switch to Williams needed to be a strong move in order to secure his F1 career.

So far in 2022, Albon has impressed the paddock, outperforming teammate Nicholas Latifi and scoring three points so far this year.

With this, the Grove-based outfit has opted to resign Albon on a multi-year deal, however the number of years on this contract is yet to be disclosed.

Albon feels excited by the move, saying:

“It’s really exciting to be staying with Williams Racing for 2023 and I look forward to seeing what we can achieve as a team in the remainder of this season and next year.

“The team is pushing hard to progress, and I am really motivated to continue this journey and further develop our learnings together.”

On the other side of the garage, Albon’s teammate remains a mystery, with the expected partnership between the Thai driver and Alpine reserve Oscar Piastri left shattered following the team’s social media outbreak yesterday.
