The Estonian has been part of Red Bull’s young driver academy for four years, gaining his FIA Super License in November 2020.
Currently, Vips sits eighth in the FIA Formula 2 championship after six races with a highest finish of second at the Saudi Arabian sprint race.
Alongside his F2 duties this weekend at the Circuit de Barcelona Catalunya, the 21-year-old will take part in the first Formula 1 practice session of the weekend with Red Bull Racing, the first of his F1 career.
With the squad still evaluating their driver line-ups at both Red Bull and Scuderia AlphaTauri, Vips’ involvement with the team could swing their opinions in his favor as he looks to break into F1.
