Vitality Netball Superleague weekend preview

We are already into Round 17 of the Vitality Netball Superleague season, with just four rounds remaining in the regular season.

This weekend’s action starts with Leeds Rhinos against Surrey Storm at the Allam Sports Centre with the first centre pass at 7.00 pm.

Rhinos are sitting in seventh place in the table, one place and three points behind the Surrey outfit. The Yorkshire based franchise will be looking to bet back to winning ways after suffering a home 71-56 loss to Loughborough Lightning last weekend.

The Storm had a double-header last week with a  narrow three-goal victory over Strathclyde Sirens on Saturday, followed by a 65-52 defeat against Wasps at the Coventry Building Society Arena 24 hours later.

On Saturday, the bottom two in the table clash at the Sports Wales National Centre when Celtic Dragons face Severn Stars.

The sides are separated by three points, with Dragons at the foot of the table after just two wins so far this season. Whilst Dragons weren’t in action last weekend, the Stars picked up a morale-boosting victory over Sirens 54-49 in Scotland.

Sunday’s action commences with Sirens up against Saracens Mavericks at the Emirates Arena.

Both sides suffered agonising narrow defeats last week, with Mavericks losing out by the finest of margins by a single goal at Team Bath before a home loss to Loughborough Lightning on Monday.

Sirens had a double loss with defeat down in Surrey and a home loss to Stars by five goals on Monday.

Top of the table Manchester Thunder are looking to make it 17 wins in a row and maintain their one hundred per cent record when they travel to face Rhinos at the First Direct Arena on Sunday afternoon.

The Manchester-based side made it a remarkable 16 wins in a row last week with victory over Team Bath 66-45 on Bank Holiday Monday.

On Monday afternoon, the Lightning lock horns with Team Bath at the Sir David Wallace Arena. Lightning are three points behind Thunder with only one loss so far this campaign.

Bath will be hoping to consolidate their play-off aspirations with a victory. As it stands, Team Bath sit in the play-off positions in fourth place with 27 points, three ahead of Mavericks.

The final match of the weekend sees Dragons facing Wasps with a first centre pass of 7.30 pm on Monday.
