Spurs aim to keep pace in top four fight against Leicester

Tottenham Hotspur will seek to put pressure on Arsenal ahead of their fixture with West Ham as the fight for Champions League qualification continues.

Tottenham have a good record against Leicester in recent seasons, Steven Bergwijn’s late double securing a dramatic 3-2 victory for the Lilywhites at the King Power in January.

Antonio Conte’s side have got the better of the Foxes seven times out of their 10 last Premier League meetings, although Leicester did win this fixture 2-0 last season at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Whilst Spurs focus is solely on finishing in the top four places, Leicester’s Premier League ambitions are distracted by their hopes in the UEFA Conference League semi-finals. Their clash with Roma at the King Power ended 1-1 after Ademola Lookman’s equaliser.

Brendan Rodgers has slowly regained the nucleus of his squad and ahead of a busy end to the season is excited to see what the Foxes can achieve.

“We’ve still got a busy fixture list to go for the next month, but it’s exciting and the players would rather play than train I’m sure.

“It was a really good performance from us last night,” the Leicester manager continued. “You obviously have to re-energise and recover as best you can. Our schedule over the last number of weeks has, of course, been very challenging, but it’s what you want.

“We’ll continue to play midweek right to the very end of the season. We’ll freshen it up in the team as well, but we always put out a team to get a result.” – Rodgers on Leicester’s end to the season.

Antonio Conte called upon Spurs fans to help the side overcome Sunday’s opposition, who could regain fourth place ahead of Arsenal’s game with West Ham.

“We have a fantastic opportunity, and we have this opportunity through our work. We want to enjoy it and for this reason, our fans will play a big part in this final (stage) of the season. They have to support us from the start until the end, when the situation is positive, when the situation is negative. If they push us, we are stronger.

“This is a great opportunity, and no-one gave us this opportunity, we earned this opportunity. We worked very hard and had fantastic performances.

“Now, we stay there, and we know we deserve to stay there because we’ve improved a lot. It’s important to live with enthusiasm and with the right pressure, to try to stay there and to take this satisfaction, because it would be great for everyone, the fans, the Club, the players, for me, for everybody.”

Leicester are Harry Kane’s favourite opponents with 18 goals in 17 appearances, the England striker hoping to get back on the scoresheet after a goalless display against Brentford.

A win feels pivotal for Spurs if they are to achieve Champions League football which could have huge implications for the future of Harry Kane and Antonio Conte at the club.
