London Geordies advance to Middlesex Charity Cup final

Hanwell Town 4 : 0 Northwood FC

The club founded by Novocastrians moved a step closer to silverware last night with a comfortable 4-0 win over a depeleted Northwood side in the semi final of the Middlesex Charity Cup.

Tom Collins scored twice before half time, the second goal being a penalty given for a handball.

In between those efforts, Tomascz Siemienczuk scored a 33rd minute goal which emanated from a goal kick courtesy of the Toon keeper Hugo Sobte, an ex-Chelsea youth teammate of Declan Rice and Mason Mount amongst others.

It wasn’t all one way traffic.

In that first period, with the score still at 1-0,  Sobte made two outstanding saves, the second a point blank save from a Tommy Boxer header. Before that he had denied Kyal WIlliams with a diving save.

Those two magnificent stops proved to be the turning points of the game, coming as they did, just two minutes apart and then before the game ran away from Northwood.

Immediately aftert the restart Ogo Obi put the outcome beyond doubt with Hanwell’s fourth.

The London Toon took their foot off the pedal thereafter and Woods managed several shots all of which went over or wide on an off night for the Reds.

Hanwell will have to wait to see who they will play and where in the final. The other half of the draw is still at quarter final stage with Bedfont & Feltham hosting Southall later this week. The winners host Uxbridge in the semi final.
