Bolton Wanderers take on Ipswich Town as the Whites look to get back to winning ways

Bolton Wanderers will be trying hard to prevent a sixth straight defeat when they welcome Ipswich Town to the University of Bolton Stadium.

The Wanderers have been in free-fall and have dropped down to 18th position in the league table, just three points off the relegation zone, following a terrible run of four league defeats.

In addition to that, they were knocked out of the Papa John’s Trophy by League Two side Hartlepool United only 10 days ago. In their defence, the last two defeats have been to Rotherham United and Wycombe Wanderers, who sit in first and third in the table respectively and are fighting for promotion to the Championship.

Ian Evatt’s side need to earn a valuable three points sooner rather than later because they could be dragged into a relegation battle and make a return back down to League Two after only one season in the third-tier.

Bolton will have their work cut out to get anything from the match against Ipswich however as the Blues have not recorded a loss in three matches, beating Wycombe 1-0, drawing against second-placed Sunderland and obliterating relegation-threatened Gillingham 4-1.

The Tractor Boys have moved up to 10th place, eight points away from the play-off places, following their recent impressive results under new manager Kieran McKenna who joined the club following his departure from Manchester United in mid-December.

The last time the two sides met at the University of Bolton Stadium was back in August 2019 as Ipswich recorded an impressive 5-0 away victory. However, more recently, the Whites secured an emphatic 5-2 victory against the Tractor Boys in the reverse fixture at Portman Road.
