After two laps under the Safety Car, the race directors decided to put an end to the race which saw Max Verstappen win the Belgian Grand Prix.

George Russell, who qualified second, had the easiest task in retaining his place on the podium with Lewis Hamilton finishing third.

During the lap to the grid, Sergio Perez went into the barrier at Les Combes as he looked destined to not make the race start. However, due to the race being delayed, the Mexican’s car was fixed and he joined Kimi Raikkonen at the back of the pack in the pit lane.

Three hours and 15 minutes after the race should have been started, the Safety Car led the drivers out of the pit lane. Two full laps later, the race directors called the drivers back into the pits as they red-flagged the session.

Deliberations continued on whether to start the race again but the FIA put an end to proceedings with Verstappen getting the race win and 12.5 points. All the drivers inside the top 10 earned half the amount of points as the regulations state that if for any reason the race is abandoned before the 75% mark everyone inside the top 10 earn half points.

This means that Russell secures nine points to his championship tally with third-place Hamilton earning seven and a half points. Daniel Ricciardo finished fourth ahead of Sebastian Vettel, Pierre Gasly, Esteban Ocon, Charles Leclerc, Nicholas Latifi and Carlos Sainz rounding out the top 10.
