Black and Whites produce comeback to beat the Giants

Huddersfield Giants led at Half time 10-0, but a Second Half resurgence saw Brett Hodgson’s side come away 17-10 victors in East Yorkshire on Friday night.

With both sides missing players due to injury and International call-ups, the game definitely had a disjointed and fractured feel, particularly in the First Half.

FC fell behind after nine minutes. Lee Gaskell’s kick was missed by Connor Wynne and Olly Ashall-Bott was able to gather and go over for the try on his Super League debut.

The Giants did not score another try in a rotten first half for the home side, but Ashton Golding came very close. Instead, they added three penalties through Oliver Russell before the turning point of the match.

Just before Half time, Wynne was tripped by Russell – who was sent to the sin bin as the hooter signalled for the end of the first period. This gave FC the impetus they needed at the start of the second half.

Now playing against 12 men, they scored their first try of the game through Mahe Fonua. Marc Sneyd, however, couldn’t add the extras and the score was 4-10 to Huddersfield.

Within minutes the home side scored again. Jack Logan scored in the corner after taking Sneyd’s crossfield kick. Sneyd then converted to make the scores 10-10 in what was proving to be a much improved second half from the black and whites.

Hull’s number seven was amongst the thick of the action. His kick towards the posts saw the away side fail to deal with the bouncing ball, and on hand was Wynne to atone for his earlier error by touching down to make the score 14-10.

Sneyd added the conversion and then ensured the comeback was complete with three minutes to go. His drop goal gave FC breathing space, the Black and Whites fans will have come away from the game despairing at the first half performance but encouraged by the second.
