Catalan Dragons look to end Wigan Warriors’ Unbeaten Run

All eyes will be on the Stade Gilbert Brutus on Saturday, as high flying Catalan Dragons will look to put an end to the Warriors unbeaten start to the season.

Both sides have made very promising starts to the season, both occupying one of the top three spots in the league. St Helens the other side in the hunt for the top spot. The Dragons beat Saints last time out 20-16, which allowed Wigan to take a slender lead at the top of the league, they are the only remaining side with a flawless record so far this campaign.

Catalan will be looking to break the second 100% record in as many weeks, as they come up against Adrian Lam’s Warriors in front of the Sky Sports cameras on Saturday evening, knowing that a win would take them joint top of the Betfred Super League.

Speaking in his pre-match conference, Warriors Head Coach Lam was very impressed by the dragon’s recruitment throughout the offseason and believed they’re a team who can cause problems to a fragile Wigan side, who are missing a number of players.

Despite the injury concerns, Lam stated “we want to get out there and get the job done and keep that top of the table spot secured.”. But, he was also quick to compliment the ‘outstanding’ start the Dragons have made to this campaign.

Wigan will be without a number of players who are a couple of weeks away from a return, but things are looking increasingly concerning for Fullback Bevan French who is seeing a surgeon to find out the full extent of a hamstring injury. Lam wasn’t confident in his pre-match press conference that we would be seeing the Australian anytime soon, explaining that “it’s not good” and “he’s going to be sorely missed”.

As for Catalans, they lost two players in the warm-up of their important win over St Helens in Sam Tomkins and Samisoni Langi, but Lam expects Sam Tomkins to make a return to the side to face his former club, where he made well over 200 appearances in the famous Cherry and White.

It would set up an interesting battle with Tomkins and Wigan’s Zak Hardacre who will be playing his favoured position of fullback on Saturday, as they prepare for the absence of Bevan French for the foreseeable.
It’s looking like an interesting matchup for the sky cameras with two high flyers going head to head, in what promises to be an entertaining match up. The Dragons will be keen to close the gap with the top spot and put themselves right into contention, but Wigan will want to maintain their unbeaten start, whilst putting on a performance that replicates such a record.
