UAE Arabian Gulf League: Matchweek 20 Preview

Just seven matches remaining in the 2020-21 Arabian Gulf League season and we might be seeing one of the tightest of challenges going on at the top and bottom ends of the table.

We get underway with relegation threateners Ajman taking on Shabab Al Ahli. The Orange Brigade side came back three times in their most recent game to rescue a point against Al Wahda on the weekend. Meanwhile, Shabab Al Ahli will feel like they dropped two points after they conceded late on to Al Jazira.

Despite the draw The Red Knight’s are unbeaten since Mid-December and will go into this game with confidence having qualified for the UAE President’s Cup and Etisalat Cup finals. Ajman are in need of points to avoid relegation, picking up just one from their last five fixtures.

Bottom of the league Hatta face top of the League Al Jazira in a feisty affair. Vladimir Vermezovic’s side ended their two match losing run with a win against their relegation rivals Al Fujairah. They welcome Marcel Keizer’s team who are unbeaten in their last five.

Sharjah FC haven’t won in their last six games, after defeat to Al Nasr they will look to end that streak when they face Khor Furkaan, who thrashed Al Dhafra 5-1 on the weekend. The Eagles look like they have avoided relegation with eight points separating them and 13th placed Al Fujairah. A win for the King’s however could see them move level on points with Al Jazira at the top depending on how other results turn out.

It’s Another big game down the bottom for Al Fujairah who are looking for their first win in three as they take on Al Wasl. The Wolves were thrown back in the relegation zone, following their defeat to Hatta and Ajman’s win, but will look to move out of it with a victory.

Baniyas face Al Nasr with both teams coming into this game with massive wins from the weekend. The Sky Blues will look to follow up from that victory with Al Ittihad Kalba and put pressure on the leaders at the top. Al Nasr will look to do the same after a vital win against title challengers Sharjah FC. Three points for the visitors could see them move level on points with their opponents just two points off the top

Al Ittihad Kalba welcome Al Dhafra to the Illtihad Kalba Sports Club. It’s a seemingly nothing to play for affair with both sitting comfortably above the drop, but they will look to respond following their defeats on the weekend. The Tigers haven’t won in their last five games and will look to recover from their dramatic elimination in the Arabain Gulf Cup semi-finals on penalties against Al Nasr.

Our last game in the Arabian Gulf League takes us to the Al-Nahyan Stadium where Al Wahda face Al Ain. Both teams come into this on the back of draws and will look to boost their chances of qualifying for the AFC Champions League with just one spot up for grabs.
