Waldstadion hosts first Saturday night game since Bundesliga postponement

Borussia Mönchengladbach aim to strengthen their top four hopes when they travel to Frankfurt this weekend.

Die Fohlen return to action in fourth. They have won three of their last five and will hope to carry on where they left off, following the pause of the season, due to Covid-19.

Their hosts Frankfurt have had a contrasting season however. After hitting the heavy heights last season where they reached the Europa League Semi-Finals last year, they currently lie 12th in the league.

Die Adler themselves aren’t fully out of danger. They are only six points clear of 16th placed Fortuna Dusseldorf, and will hope not to be dragged into a scrap at the bottom.

The visitors got the better of Eintracht in the reverse fixture in Westphalia back in October, coming out 4-2 winners at Borussia Park.

Frankfurt have enjoyed playing at home this season and have recorded some impressive results over the top five. Including a draw with Dortmund, victories over Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig, and of of course the 5-1 demolition of Bayern Munich in November.

But Mönchengladbach will be prepared, they have the joint third best defence in the division, which has only conceded 30 goals.

Victory for Eintracht Frankfurt would leapfrog them over Köln into 11th place and would ease any relogation woes.

Three points for the visitors would move them five clear of 5th placed Bayer Leverkusen, who play on Monday night. It would also put them just three points of leaders Bayern Munich, keeping their feint title hopes alive.

Team news

For Eintracht Frankfurt – Jonathan De Guzman out. Sebastian Rode, Eric Durm and Gonaclo Pacencia are all doubts.

For Borussia Mönchengladbach – Dennis Zakaria and Fabian Johnson are sidelined through injury
