Boks spring a surprise in Rugby World Cup Final

South Africa lifted the 2019 Rugby World Cup Trophy in Yokohama, Japan, after defeating England 32-12 in the final.

England were the strong favourites going into the final after a famous victory over the reigning champions New Zealand in the semi finals the previous weekend.

However from the kick off the Springboks took the game to England, and after scoring an early penalty, never went behind throughout the entire match.

England at least kept it reasonably tight until half time when they trailed 12-6. But into the second half the boys in dark green and yellow started to dominate the match and scored a try in the 67th minute to give them a 13 point lead.

England then needed to score two converted tries in the final 13 minutes of the match without reply for an unlikely comeback. It was not to be for them as instead South Africa scored a further try with six minutes left to play to extend their lead even further.

The win gives South Africa an impressive three World titles, equalling New Zealand’s record, having previously won famously in 1995 in Johannesburg and in Paris in 2007.
