Huddersfield upset Brentford in 1-0 victory

Huddersfield continued their unbeaten run to seven games with an impressive 1-0 win away to in form Brentford.

In an uneventful first half, the game started very slowly with a lack of creativity from either side. The first opening of the game came in the seventh minute. Said Benrahma’s cross split open the Huddersfield defence, Christian Norgaard raced to it and his effort went will wide of the bar.

Huddersfield’s first chance of the game came in the 29th minute. Fraizer Campbell’s low driven shot was smartly saved by David Raya. They went close to taking the lead just before half time. Confusion inside Brentford’s box lead to an opportunity for Karlan Grant but he sliced his shot wide.

Brentford came out the stronger side after the interval with Benrahma at the heart of the Bees attack. He had a shot fizz wide in the 48th minute. Three minutes later his low driven effort was comfortably saved by Kamil Grabara.

The hosts came very close to taking the lead in the 58th minute. Julian Jeanvier’s powerful header was palmed away by Grabara was called into action yet again.

However, Huddersfield took the lead against the run of play three minutes later. A long ball over the top was well controlled by Fraizer Campbell who teed up Karlan Grant, his curling effort from 15 yards went beyond Raya to the delight of the The Terriers’ supporters.

The goal took the wind off Brentford’s sails. The West London club dominated much of the possession but struggled to create any clear cut chances with the Huddersfield defence very resilient.

The away team continued to play on the counter and nearly doubled their lead with five minutes to go, with Adama Diakhaby’s low driven effort just heading wide. Brentford continued to apply the pressure but never really got the better of a Huddersfield defence who were adamant.

The disappointing defeat means that Brentford wining streak comes to an end having won three on the bounce prior to this game and they drop down to 13th in the table.
