Nikita Parris has signed for Lyon just over a week after announcing her departure from Women’s Super League club Manchester City.

Parris announced that she would be leaving Man City and has now joined Lyon where she will be reunited with former City team-mates Lucy Bronze and Izzy Christiansen.

Over the weekend, Lyon won the Champions League for the fourth consecutive season.

Losing one of their best players will be a blow to Man City, but it is no surprise that she has moved to Lyon.

Parris, whose part of England’s squad for the World Cup, was the second-highest scorer in the Women’s Super League this season with 19 goals. She is also the WSL’s record scorer with 47 league goals.

On signing for Lyon, Parris told Sky Sports:

“When Olympique Lyon come in for you, it’s not a team you turn down,

“I knew if I was to turn it down it would be a massive regret. So I’m here, I’ve signed, I’m ready to compete and I know it’s going to be a great journey for me. I’m so excited. It’s the biggest club team in the world for women’s football.”

The forward, 25, can play on the wing or as a striker and will no doubt be full of confidence going into this summer’s tournament.

England host Scotland in their opening group stage game on Sunday 9th June. Parris could start in that match with the Lionesses looking to build on the SheBelievesCup success.
