AFC Fylde’s Wembley Double | Non League Round-up | Play-off Semi-Finals

Two sides secured their place in the Vanarama National League play-off final at Wembley, with penalties needing to find a winner in one semi-final.

AFC Fylde netted early in their away tie at Solihull Moors to book their second Wembley trip of the season. Danny Philliskirk’s second minute strike ended the Moors’ stunning season where they have defied expectations to even reach the play-offs.

Eastleigh took big-spending Salford City all the way to penalties but were not able to match the Manchester outfit from the spot. Having dispatched of Wrexham in the mid-week eliminator, the Spitfires matched the Class of 92’s side over 120 minutes. Despite Adam Rooney missing the opening spot kick, the Reds bounced back scoring the remainder of their attempts to keep their season alive and send them to the National Stadium.

Late drama in both ties in the National League South saw both Woking and Welling advance.

Despite being two goals behind at the break, Woking turned the game on its head with Jake Hyde netting a stoppage time winner to beat Wealdstone 3-2.

Welling did not fall behind and were leading 2-0 on the stroke of half time but a 43rd minute Tom Wraight strike changed the complexion of the game. Jonny Giles equalised for Chelmsford City in the 83rd minute before Brendan Kiernan netted a controversial stoppage time penalty to send the Wings flying into the promotion final.

In the National League North, both fixtures could not be decided in regular time and instead on penalties.

Chorley overcame ten-man Altrincham. The Robins would have their goal scorer Josh Hancock sent off just six minutes after he found the back of the net.

Elsewhere Brackley Town and Spennymoor Town played out a cagey 0-0 draw. The Durham side would overcome Brackley by 5-4 on spot kicks.

The victors will now play their promotion finals in the upcoming week.
