Aaron Ramsey ruled out for the rest of the season

Arsenal manager Unai Emery has confirmed that midfielder Aaron Ramsey has played his final match for the Gunners ahead of his summer move to Italian giants Juventus in the summer.

The Welsh international had to be substituted in the 29th minute away to Napoli after picking up a hamstring injury. The injury has turned out to be more serious than first thought and the Gunners will be without the midfielder even if they progress past Valencia in the semi-final of the Europa League.

Unai Emery has admitted the club will miss the Welshman. In his pre-match press conference he said:

“We can’t use him, injuries come for players like that and we have players who can play.

“But he was in a good moment when he took this injury. I had a good experience with him, he transmitted his energy and his heart is red like Arsenal.”

In a statement made on his Instagram the 28-year-old said:

“It saddens me to say that the game against Napoli was my last game in an Arsenal shirt. Unfortunately, it left me with an injury that rules me out of the remaining games. I am really disappointed not to play until the end and give everything for the club while I am still an Arsenal player. Unfortunately, it’s out of my hands but I wanted to say thank you to the fans for your support.”

During his 11 years in North London, Ramsey scored 64 goals and provided 65 assists. He played a crucial role in ending the Gunners nine-year trophy drought scoring in their 3-2 win over Hull in the final of the FA Cup in 2014. He again stepped up to the plate in 2017, yet again scoring the winner in the final against Chelsea.
