National League Round-up: Match Day 44

The start of the Easter weekend offered plenty of talking points as Ebbsfleet United’s play-off hopes took a hit after a draw to relegated Havant & Waterlooville.

Gary Hill’s Ebbsfleet have been strong play-off contenders since the former Woking boss replaced Daryll McMahon in November 2018. The 3-3 draw with Havant & Waterlooville sees The Fleet now sit three points away from the final play-off place.

Elsewhere, Leyton Orient continued their lead at the top of the National League as they overcame play-off hopefuls Harrogate Town at home. Goals from Josh Coulson and Matt Harold saw The O’s run out 2-0 winners and maintain their two-point lead over Salford City.

Salford City were also victorious, beating Boreham Wood thanks to late Matt Green strike. Despite sitting in 19th, Boreham Wood were stern opposition for Salford with the final score 3-2.

Third placed Solihull Moors were convincing in their visit to Bromley. The hosts sit comfortably in mid-table with nothing to play for in the closing weeks of the season, The Moors looking for a strong play-off seeding. Goals from Jamie Osbourne and Daniel Wright were enough for The Moors to win 2-0.

FA Trophy finalists AFC Fylde continued their play-off push with a win away to Barnet. Fylde took the lead in the 21stminute through Danny Rowe and the hosts did not make it any easier for themselves with Dan Sweeney sent off minutes later. Rowe’s goal would be the only goal of the game with Fylde winning 1-0.

Wrexham left it late to take victory against Sutton United. A second-half strike from Kieran Kennedy was enough for the Red Dragons to claim all three points.

Elsewhere, Gateshead who are in the midst of a change in ownership, overcame fellow mid-table outfit Chesterfield. Steven Rigg’s first half penalty was enough for Gateshead to seal all three points.
