Huddersfield contact police after midfielder Philip Billing is racially abused on social media

Huddersfield midfielder Philip Billing posted on Instagram that he received racial abuse from someone who claimed to be a supporter of the club.

He received this abuse via a private message and made it aware to the public by posting a screenshot of the abuse along with adding a ‘thumbs down’ emoji.

The supposed supporter told Danish midfielder Billing to leave the club and used a racial slur towards the Huddersfield Town player/

His club released a statement a twitter:

“We’ve referred the message sent to Philip Billing over social media to the West Yorkshire Police”

“Huddersfield Town does not tolerate abuse & has a zero-tolerance stance towards any form of discrimination. We will give our full cooperation to the Police to deal with this in the strongest way.”

Billing has been at the club since 2013, after joining from Danish side Esbjerg fB when he was 17 years old, back in 2016 he was named youth player of the season.

Since his first match for the Terriers which was back in April 2014, against then-fellow Championship side Leicester City, he has played 74 times including that match.

This season’s performances have seen the midfielder called up to the Danish senior squad for their upcoming UEFA Euro 2020 qualifiers against Kosovo and Switzerland.

He joins team-mates Jonas Lössl and Mathias Zanka, as he looks for his first ever senior cap after featuring eight times for the Under 21’s.

Huddersfield are bottom of the Premier League, having only won three matches out of 30 so far. They are currently 16 points from safety with eight games left.
