Maurizio Sarri has questioned his ability to motivate his Chelsea squad after they were hammered 4-0 by Bournemouth on Wednesday evening.
After the drubbing Sarri reportedly kept his players in the dressing room for almost 40 minutes while awaiting media had to be patient before the Italian came to conduct his post-match press duties.
The result saw the Blues drop out of the Champions League places in favour of Arsenal due to goals scored.
Sarri had recently criticised his players, specifically saying Eden Hazard was not a leader, and questioned their desire once more.
“Maybe it’s my fault because maybe I’m not able to motivate this group and these players,” Said the former Napoli boss,
“I don’t know why. But I need to understand and we need to understand very soon because we have to play in three days.”
“We are doing something wrong with our mentality, of course. We need to understand why and we need to react to the difficulty.”
Chelsea currently sit in fifth in the Premier League on 47 points -three fewer than the same stage last season.
Sarri conceded that his team “stopped playing” against the Cherries and will need to find answeres before they face Huddersfield Town on Saturday.
“We stopped playing as a team and we stopped defending. We were in trouble but it was only a consequence [of our performance].”
