Mourinho has turned down three offers since United sacking

José Mourinho has spoken for the first time since being sacked by Manchester United, speaking to Bein Sports he said that he’d been offered three jobs since leaving his last post on December 18.

Mourinho who was a guest of part of the Al Jazeera television channels coverage of Arsenal vs Chelsea made a number of omissions. Speaking about his future he said,

“I am happy with these last three weeks, I am happy with this experience and I am going to have other experiences that normally I cannot have.”

“But I know me, and I know by the end of March I will be struggling with my happiness. Continuing on he says “I will analyse things. I have already refused three options because I didn’t feel it is what I want. I am going to be calm. The more time I have, the better I can prepare. The next must be something that makes me happy with a challenge.”

One of the sides rumoured to have offered the former Real Madrid man an path back into management was SL Benfica, a side in his native Portugal. The 55-year-old started off his managerial career with the Liga NOS side but he turned them down as he believes he can get a top job again.

The former Chelsea manager also entertained the viewers watching in confirming a story that had been a rumour lasting 15 years, as he announced how he hid from officials to give a team-talk to his players during Chelsea’s tie against Bayern Munich back in 2005 when he was handed a two-game ban.

Before his time on the broadcast ended he did launch an attack on Manchester United for his lack of backing in the transfer window comparing Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp’s backing in the transfer market to his saying he wasn’t going to be successful as he didn’t get helped like they did.

The 55-year-old said,

“In the first season, Guardiola was not a champion, it was really difficult and people were expecting a winning Manchester City.

“Some of the players were already champions twice, Sergio Agüero and Vincent Kompany, and in the first to the second season Pep made great decisions, but great decisions that were supported.” He added,

“For example, he didn’t want Pablo Zabaleta or Bacary Sagna, two right-backs, and he didn’t want Aleksandar Kolarov or Gaël Clichy. In the same summer he sold four full-backs and got four full-backs. He got Kyle Walker, Danilo, Benjamin Mendy and another. He was supported.

“I think how many players were in Liverpool before Jürgen arrived. No Alisson, no Virgil van Dijk, no Andrew Robertson, no Mohamed Salah, no Roberto Firmino, no Sadio Mané, no Fabinho, no Georginio Wijnaldum, no Naby Keïta, so this is work in depth.”
