George Bartlett signs new deal at Somerset

Somerset batsman George Bartlett has extended his time with the County until 2021.

The 20-year-old signed his first professional contract with Somerset ahead of the 2017 after graduating from the Club’s academy in 2016.

Bartlett made his Somerset debut against Warwickshire in the Specsavers County Championship in 2017. He has since featured in ten First Class fixtures, scoring over 400 runs.

The Somerset Academy product has also impressed on an international level for England’s Young Lions. In 2017 Bartlett scored 179 for the Under-19s against India, beating the previous record of highest ever overseas score set by an England U19 batsman set by Nasser Hussain in 1987.

Speaking to the Club Website after signing a new deal, George said:

“I’m delighted. As a young cricketer you aspire to become a professional, and for the Club to show faith in me for another few years is brilliant.

“It’s now about taking it season by season and looking to improve every year.

“Playing for Somerset means a lot. When you grow up in the County and come through the Academy you can see what it means to everyone. You become part of that cricket family and you just want to do as well as you can for everyone involved with the team.

“It’s great to be a part of this Club.”
