Selection dilemma for Sarri as Morata latest to be injured

Maurizio Sarri could face a selection dilemma after Alvaro Morata was forced off through injury last night.

The striker was substituted in Chelsea’s 2-2 Europa League draw with MOL Vidi in Hungary. His replacement, Olivier Giroud, scored the Blues’ equaliser to rescue them from an embarrassing defeat.

Morata and Giroud have shared the goal-scoring duties this season, although Sarri deployed Eden Hazard as a ‘false nine’ in last Saturday’s win over Manchester City.

With five remaining fixtures in December, more pressure would be put onto Giroud to achieve should Morata be ruled out for a set amount of time.

Speaking after the draw in Budapest, Sarri said that he will need to wait for the assessment on Morata’s injury.

“The first impression of the doctor (is) maybe it is not a serious injury.

But, of course, with this situation we have to wait and wait until tomorrow I think to see if the situation is serious.”
