Southampton has confirmed that the club has parted ways with manager Mark Hughes after just one win in their opening 14 games this season.
The Manchester United legend was appointed as Saints boss last season in March following the dismissal of Mauricio Pellegrino, and although Hughes managed to take Southampton to the semi-finals of the FA Cup, the South Coast side only managed to stay up in the Premier League by three points in 17th place.
As well as Hughes, Southampton has dismissed assistant manager Mark Bowen and assistant first team coach Eddie Niedzwiecki, who both joined the Welshman in March.
The club also released the following statement: “We would like to express our thanks to Mark and his staff for all their efforts during their time at St. Mary’s. The search for a new manager to take the club forward is already underway.”
First team assistant coach Kelvin David will take the hot seat for Southampton’s Wednesday night fixture away to Tottenham Hotspur.
