Mexico 1-Uruguay 4
Whenever a young side has a quality World Cup the question always comes next is: Can they make it a repeat performance at the next major international tournament? While the Copa America is still slightly under a year away, Uruguay showed on Friday night that they might be a pre-tournament favorite. Thanks to a pair of goals from Luis Suarez and some terrific defending La Celeste defeated Mexico 4-1 at NRG Stadium in Houston.
Jose Gimenez put Uruguay on top with his goal in the 21st minute. While Raul Jimenez levelled the score for El Tri with a penalty kick chance in the 25th minute, the Uruguayan attack was too much for the young Mexican side. Suarez scored twice (32′ and 40′) to give his side the two goal advantage just before halftime. In the second half Gaston Pereiro put the game away, scoring his first-ever international goal in the 59th minute.
On hand to cover the match was Eric Guzman. Please enjoy some of his photos from the match below!
