One free kick enough for Serbia in Group E opener over Costa Rica

Serbia 1-Costa Rica 0

The start of the World Cup for Costa Rica was very different than four years ago. This time Los Ticos struggled against a strong Serbian team, who only needed a free kick goal from their captain Aleksandar Kolarov, to beat the Central America team in the first match of group E.

Serbia created some chances to score via Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, who was the leader of the midfield for the Europeans. Forward Aleksander Mitrovic was the most dangerous man for Serbia, who deserved the win despite a good defensive effort of Costa Rica.

And even though Serbia had more chances to score, Costa Rica played a solid match, where they have some chance in offense. However, the most important player for Los Ticos keeps being Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas, whose saves kept his team in the match.

Costa Rica needs to turn the page quickly and get ready for their next match, which will be a do or die one for them as they will face Brazil in Saint Petersburg Stadium on June 22. On the other hand, Serbia will play against Switzerland in Kaliningrad Stadium on the same day as they will try to secure a spot in the round of sixteen.
