Kim Little opened the scoring for Arsenal

Kim Little on target for Arsenal Women who go third after beating Reading 3-1

Arsenal comfortably swept aside 3rd place Reading at Meadow Park tonight in the FA WSL, to move above both Reading and Birmingham into 3rd.

The Gunners have already qualified for the FA Cup Final on May 5 and will face table topping Chelsea in the final there.

Tonight on what many considered London’s first real as opposed to theoretical day of summer, they beat Reading surprisingly easily after Scotland international and former Reign player, Kim Little netted a stunning long range goal.

The Netherland’s Dominique Jannsen added a header before halftime to leave the Reds on easy street. Fara Williams pulled one back for the Royals in impressive fashion with a volley but the home side remained the more threatening throughout.

Janssen’s compatriot Danielle van de Donk restored the two goal cushion after rounding Mary Earps midway through the second half and the Gunners never looked back.

Manchester City beat Sunderland 3-0 and Chelsea beat Everton 1-0 which meant the Gunners leapt to 3rd over Reading but still trail those clubs, by eight and five points respectively. They have games in hand though and the title looks to be close.

Arsenal’s next game is at bottom of the table Yeovil on Saturday.
