Morgan Brian takes a corner during an international friendly.

Midfielder Morgan Brian is leaving the Chicago Red Stars and signed a two-and-a-half year deal with French side Olympique Lyonnais according to The Equalizer. Brian was traded to the Red Stars from the Houston Dash for Kristie Mewis (who played just one match with the Red Stars after being traded herself from the Washington Spirit).

Brian played just two matches for the Red Stars after spending most of her career with Houston and her 2017 was marred by injury in Houston prior to the trade. That trade with Houston included conditional future considerations which, according to Corey Roepken of the Houston Chronicle, would have meant an additional player heading to Houston had Brian remained on the Red Stars roster in 2018. Brian’s departure to Lyon means that trade is now complete. The Red Stars will retain Brian’s NWSL rights indefinitely.
Lyon have won 11 successive women’s league titles in France and are on course to win a 12th straight after opening with 12 straight wins. They are also in line to win a third successive treble as they are also involved in the French Cup and the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
